Walt Disney World Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Ride

When Walt Disney World wanted to build a new premium roller coaster ride at the Magic Kingdom they contacted both General Caulking and Coatings and Barton Malow Construction who partnered together to construct the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride.

The roller coaster ride consists of both indoor and outdoor facilities requiring not only quality construction but also attention to detail due to the intricate artwork and theming involved in the ride. This job was a challenge as all work had to be done inside the Magic Kingdom and often during hours in which patrons were in the park and actively participating in other rides, parades, etc. Our work crews were dealing with timing issues and challenges on an almost daily basis. But, having worked for Walt Disney World several times in the past, our staff handled the expectations and requirements.

General Caulking’s scope of work started with the waterproofing of the foundation for the ride. This area totaled more than 25,000 square feet. It was decided to use Grace’s Pre Prufe 300R to waterproof the foundation.   In the second phase of GCC’s work, all vertical tilt wall panel joints were caulked using Dow Corning silicone. In the final phase of our work, Tremco Dymonic 100 sealant was used to caulk interior themed custom made art work designed specifically for the ride. This part of the project was where aesthetics and precision were critical to compliment the ride’s overall interior look. Our mechanics performed beautifully, took pride in their work, and showed that quality caulking and tooling are really an art form.

General Caulking and Coatings was there from the beginning of the foundation to the final interior detail art caulking. Although challenging at times, our staff took great pride in seeing a design on paper become a permanent attraction at “the happiest place of earth” – Walt Disney World.
